Only 16km from Locanda Margherita B&B and the village of Rassa, Alagna Valsesia is a renowned tourist resort, known for its mountaineering and winter sports, and is internationally renowned for its off-piste skiing and Freeride Paradise. The village of Alagna is at an altitude of 1191m and is at the foot of the impressive Southern Wall of Monte Rosa, the second highest mountain in the Alps.
The lifts from Alagna lead to the new Punta Indren station, on perennial glaciers at 3270 m and connect with the Valle di Gressoney and the Champoluc Valley in Valle d'Aosta. The three stations together form the ski area Monterosa Ski, which has a total of 36 ski lifts and 215 km of prepared pistes. From Alagna an eight-person cable car leads to Pianalunga (2046m), from here a 100 place cable car leads quickly to the Passo Salati (2971m), from which some of the most beautiful ski slopes descend.
Experienced skiers can also take another cable car to Punta Indren (3275m) where some of the longest and most challenging off-piste routes in the Alps start. Using backcountry or mountaineering equipment the variety of itineraries becomes almost unlimited. From Alagna to Riva Valdobbia a 15km long cross-country ski track is available for lovers of this discipline. At Alagna you will find a small ice skating rink that is always active in the winter months.

During the winter months, for those who love mountaineering or snowshoes, Rassa is an ideal starting point for fine trips to Valle Gronda or Valle Sorba, where you will be enchanted by the natural beauty of a totally unspoiled environment. We have snowshoes available for guests staying at Locanda Margherita. We can also arrange ski equipment rental for mountaineering and ice climbing.
After a Winter on the slopes, when the snow begins to melt, the rivers of Valsesia become the new playground.
The Spring and Summer months are the ideal time to enjoy rafting, kayaking, canoeing and canyoning. There are guides available for all the water activities. If you prefer to stay on the land, there are numerous hiking trails in the area, which is renowned for hiking, mountaineering, climbing, horseback riding and mountain biking.
All activities we can organize with the support of the local Alpine Guide of Alagna Ski Guides. If you want to relax in a nature ambience, you can go fishing but a permit is needed to fish in the area. Here in Rassa there is also a daily permit available which you can purchase at the Local bar, or strolling and exploring the wildlife.
